J. Milton – Paradise Lost

He spake: and to confirm his words, out-flew
Millions of flaming swords, drawn from the thighs
Of mighty Cherubim; the sudden blaze
Far round illumin’d hell: highly they rag’d
Against the Highest, and fierce with grasped arms
Clash’d on thir sounding Shields the din of war,
Hurling defiance toward the vault of Heav’n.

*G. Dore – They heard, and were abashed, and up they sprung

I heard a while ago from whom I can’t remember so it is the wildest hearsy) that there was going to be a graphic movie of Paradise Lost (in the style of “The Three Hundred.”).Now that would be something! Satan writhing on the boiling lake: “Better to reign in hell than serve in heaven.” –Adam and Eve arguing over whose fault it really was that she ate the apple. It has a monumentally sad ending, unless we can really take to heart Satan’s words:” The mind is its own place and can make a heaven of hell or a hell of heaven.”
